Really, if hiking for far, avoid big cities in the night. Go close the day before, push bike through the next day, and find shelter safe area in the evening, place and spot.

Chicago is trendy again, that's why I wasn't. Berlin you can forget. Party? Germany? Best in Frankfurt, presently. Amsterdam also nice. ... ;) 

My ranking TOP3: Frankfurt 3rd, Germany, a little scary but really good; New York City, USA, awesome (techno party in empty underground tunnel or Gothic Church) 2nd;  absolutely uncomparable is Manila, Makati, thus 1st (you feel like an insect in a huge swarm), the Philippines.
